The Walk-On’s Independence Bowl is hosting Kickoff K’s presented by Orangetheory Fitness this Saturday, September 15, with the event featuring a half marathon for the first time in its four-year history.
The first three years of Kickoff K’s featured 5K and 10K races, but the 10K has been replaced with a half marathon. The half marathon will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, with the 5K to start shortly after at 7:15 a.m. Both races will start and finish at Fern Marketplace.
The races will be put on by Sportspectrum, and runners can register via RunSignUp at https://runsignup.com/Race/LA/Shreveport/KickoffKs.
The registration fee is $70 for the half marathon and $30 for the 5K through Friday, and registration on race day will be $75 for the half marathon and $35 for the 5K. All runners will receive a custom dri-fit shirt, and racers who finish the half marathon will receive a commemorative bottle opener coin.
The half marathon will be run through the historic South Highland neighborhood, including scenic streets such as McCormick St., Creswell Ave., Thornhill Ave., Ockley Dr., Unadilla St. and Fairfield Ave.
The overall male and female winner of the half marathon will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and the male and female winners from each age group (20-and-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-and-over) will win $100. The overall men’s and women’s winners of the 5K will receive a $250 cash prize, and the male and female age group winners will receive $50.
Following the races, runners and spectators can attend an after party at Frank’s Pizza, which is located at 6950 Fern Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71105.
